Almond milk not actually healthy at all. Eat real almonds, don’t waste your money on almond milk. Lawsuits claim hardly any almonds used to make almond milk. How sad is that. We have been fooled again. Some might say not fooled, but lied to. How does this keep happening ? It seems like over and over again we find out the labels on our foods are misleading, wrong and sometimes even out right lies. How can this keep going un-detected ? Do we not have any regulatory bodies testing these food items and label claims ?
A high profile lawsuit vs WhiteWave Foods and Blue Diamond over how almond should be in almond milk is still proceeding through the courts, but much of the wind was taken from the plaintiffs’ sails this week after a New York federal judge said they had no grounds to force the firms to change their labels.
The sad sad case of fake almond milk.
It’s not fake in the sense it does have almonds in it. But fake or misleading in the fact that if you drink it you think your getting the goodness of almonds. When the amount of almonds you are actually ingesting is barely nothing at all. It’s just not right and the companies in question should really be investigated and shut down.I mean when it comes to our food supply we trust these companies to be honest, always! We can’t afford to lose trust in Government approved foods and labels. So what’s going on here and why does it continue ?
They get no real penalties to make them stop.
Sure these companies get fined when they get caught, but it’s no big deal to them. Heavy fines are just not enough anymore. These companies make so much money with the products they sell by lying that paying a large fine is easy. It works out to a small portion of their misleading product profits. If they made 60 million and get fined 20 million, why should they care, they still have another 40 million they get to keep. And it does not stop them from making false claims all over again with the next product. It’s a win win situation for these big food companies. The fact they get caught over and over tells the real story. They really do not care about lying and mis-leading the public about what is in their food.
What should you do instead of drinking almond milk ?
So here is what we recommend if you are currently drinking almond milk plain or making your protein shakes with almond milk. For those of you who drink almond milk plain, forget the almond milk. Simply eat a small hand full of real almonds and drink plain water, green ice tea or turmeric ginger ice tea. For those of you using almond milk as a base for your protein shakes, use filtered water instead and add a small handful 8-10 real whole almonds. This way you know your getting the healthy goodness of real whole almonds, and no extra processing ingredients you may not want in your body.
We hope this helps educate our readers about eating real whole foods and getting proper nutrition where ever you can. At the same time help avoiding poor nutrition purchases of processed foods like this horrible almond milk.
WhiteWave Foods has been accused of falsely advertising its Silk almond milk by the same legal firm suing Blue Diamond over the way it markets Almond Breeze, and as the cases are near-identical, the judge handling them has consolidated them into one class action in New York*.
Consumers understand that almond milk must contain some water, but they would be surprised to learn that the leading brands contain just 2% almonds, alleges a class action lawsuit vs Blue Diamond Growers.
