 LETS START WITH SOME BASICS

What healthy food choices should I be making?

Eating smaller portions to start with. Learn what a serving size is for different foods and how many servings you need in a meal. Most of us are just eating way way too much. The food companies have increases thier serving sizes of foods over the years so they can charge more and make more profits. Thier goal is only to rob you of your money regardless of the health consequences to you. They keep increasing serving sizes- 20% more Free , than they make that new size the regular size and charge more the next season. Eventually a 250ml serving of softdrink was 300ml then 325 ml than 355 ml now some are 500ml. Thats 100% more soda and calories per serving.

Really make sure to eat less unhealthy fat. Choose fewer high-fat processed foods and use less processed fat for cooking. Use olive oil when cooking instead of vegetable or canola oils. You especially want to limit foods that are high in saturated fats or trans fat, such as:

  • Fatty cuts of meat.
  • Processed meats, luncheon meats.
  • Fried Foods
  • Whole milk and dairy products made from whole milk.
  • Cakes, candy, cookies, crackers, and pies.
  • Salad dressings.
  • Lard, shortening, stick margarine, and nondairy creamers.

What should I eat more of?

Eat more fiber by eating more whole foods. Whole foods are foods in thier natural state, not boxes, packages, and bags. Whole foods such as :

  • Steel cut oatmeal which is 100% whole grain oatmeal in its natural state.
  • Beans and peas (e.g., black beans, garbanzo beans, kidney beans, pinto beans, split peas, lentils).
  • Whole fruits with the skin on
  • Whole grain wild rice.
  • Whole vegetables

Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables every day. Choose fresh or frozen. Eat plenty of veggies like these:

  • Dark green veggies (e.g., broccoli, spinach, brussel sprouts).
  • Orange veggies (e.g., carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, winter squash).
  • Beans and peas (e.g., black beans, garbanzo beans, kidney beans, pinto beans, split peas, lentils).

Eat some healthy fats every day. Healthy fats such as Walnuts and almonds, Olive oil on your salads or for cooking.

  • Sodas and sports drinks / slurrpies.
  • Tea or coffee sweetened with sugar.
